You'are missing a pro of big units that I noticed in AOS. When you're doing alternating combat activation it's nice to be able to get all say 30 of your guys to swing instead of giving your opponent 3 activation before you get all of your attacks in. Not saying I'd always go with the big groups but it's worth a thought. Also consider overwatch and getting piled into in later turns. if I have 3 ten man shooty units right next to each other and someone assaults 1 I get 10 overwatch shots. The other 20 would not get to shoot and could get piled into later never getting to fire a shot.
